天贊三年。梁龍德三年，唐莊宗李存勖同光元年。夏四月己巳，晉王李存勖稱皇帝於魏州牙城之南，國號大唐。是為莊宗。以魏州為興唐府，建東京，又於太原府建西京，又以鎮州為真定府，建北都。時唐國所有，凡十三節度、五十州。

天贊四年。後唐同光二年。春正月，契丹攻幽州。

天贊五年。後唐同光三年。夏四月朔，日食。

天贊六年。後唐同光四年四月，明宗立，改元天成。夏四月朔，唐莊宗如汜水，嚴辦將發，從馬直指揮使郭從謙叛，帥所部兵攻興教門，緣城而入，近臣宿將皆釋甲潛遁，莊宗為流矢所中而崩，年四十三。左右皆散，善友斂樂器覆尸而焚之。是月，李嗣源自罌子穀而入洛陽，拾莊宗骨於灰燼而葬之河南新縣。百官勸請嗣源監國，嗣源，乃太祖李克用之養子也。既而即位，是為明宗。
