15  | 蔡《傳》引《爾雅》「九河六曰簡潔」，《爾雅》本作「絜與簡各為一，河、河以一字名者。李廵曰：「簡，大也。絜，苦也。河水多，山石治之苦絜」。唐孔氏、宋邢氏《疏》並同，即朱子《孟子集注》亦曰曰簡曰絜，然亦譌為潔矣。至鄭康成言齊桓公塞河，蓋據《尚書》中候春秋寳乾圖》之文云爾。蔡傳》駮之，謂曲防齊所禁塞河，宜非桓公所為，亦是尋好話頭，其實葵丘五命，特以約束諸侯，躬自犯者多矣，奚有於河？唯于欽《齊乘》曰：河至大陸趨海，勢大土平，自播為九。禹因而疏之，非禹鑿之而為九也。禹後歴商、周，至齊、桓時千五百餘年，支流漸絶，經流獨行，其勢必然，非桓公塞八流以自廣也。論最確，予因思齊桓公卒於襄王，九年戊寅，至定王五年已未，甫四十二年。而《周譜》云：「定王五年，河徙」。《水經注》：「周定王五年，河徙故瀆」。蓋下流既壅，水行不快，上流乃決，理所宜然，河之患始此矣。善乎朱子有言，「禹治水，只是從低處，下手下面之，水盡殺，則上面之水漸平得之矣。 |
