10  | 澎湖廳屹峙海中，群島參差環拱。隋開皇閒，虎賁將陳棱略地至澎湖，始見於史。元末置巡司。明初徙民漳、泉二郡，廢巡司而墟其地。繼而不逞者潛聚其中，推年大者為長，苫茅棲止，以畋漁為生。嘉靖間，都督俞大猷剿海賊，留偏師駐防，後設巡檢守之；不久並裁。萬歷中，增設澎湖遊兵。天啟初，荷蘭據焉；總兵俞咨皋擒其帥歸，遂遁去。後為鄭氏所據，設澎湖安撫司，倚為重鎮。康熙二十二年，水師提督施琅率師往征，一戰克之。二十三年，隸臺灣縣，設巡檢一員駐守。雍正五年，裁巡檢，改設通判一員，兼海防事，即以大山嶼之媽宮澳為廳治。 |
