6  | 二年五月，蒙古以姚樞為太子太師，竇默為太子太傅，許衡為太子太保。皆辭，不拜。時平章政事王文統以言利進，為平章政事。衡、樞輩入侍，言治亂休戚必以義為本，文統患之。竇默復於蒙古主前，力言文統學術不正，必禍天下。蒙古主曰「然則誰可相者」默曰「以臣觀之，無如許衡」蒙古主不悅而罷。文統疑衡與默為表裏，乃奏授樞等東宮三師，陽為尊用之，實不使數侍蒙古主也。默以屢攻文統不中，欲因東宮以避禍，與樞拜命，將入謝，衡曰「此不安於義也。且禮，師傅與太子位東西向，師傅坐，太子乃坐，公等度能復此乎。不能，則師道自我廢也」因相與懷制，言太子未立，豈宜虛設官稱。乃改授樞大司農，默仍侍講學士，衡國子祭酒。未幾，衡稱疾，還懷、孟。 |
