9  | 二年二月庚子，以王安石參知政事。初，帝欲用安石，曾公亮力薦之，唐介言安石難大任，帝曰「文學不可任邪。經術不可任邪。吏事不可任邪」介對曰「安石好學而泥古，故議論迂闊，若使為政，必多所更變」介退，謂曾公亮曰「安石果大用，天下必困擾。諸公當自知之」帝問侍讀孫固曰「安石可相否」固對曰「安石文行甚高，處侍從獻納之職可矣。宰相自有度，安石狷狹少容。必欲求賢相，呂公著、司馬光、韓維其人也」帝不以為然，竟以安石參知政事，謂之曰「人皆不能知卿，以卿但知經術，不曉世務」安石對曰「經術正所以經世務」帝曰「卿所施設，以何為先」安石對曰「末世風俗，賢者不得行道，不肖者得行無道，賤者不得行禮，貴者得行無禮。變風俗，立法度，正方今之所急也」帝深納之。 |
