宋司馬光字君實，夏縣涷水鄉人。生七嵗，聞講《左氏春秋》，愛之，退為家人講，即了其大指，自是手不釋書。仁宗寳元初，中進士甲科，累官尚書左僕射、煎門下侍郎。病革不復自覺，諄諄如夢中語，然皆朝廷天下事也。贈太師，追封温國公，謚曰文正，賜碑曰「忠清粹徳。嘗自言吾無過人者，但平生所為，未嘗有不可對人言者耳。誠心自然，天下敬信。陜、洛問皆化其徳，性不喜釋、老，曰：其㣲言不能出吾書，其誕吾不信也」。有文集八十巻、《資治通鑑》三百二十四巻、《歴年圖》二巻、《稽古録》二十巻、本朝百官公卿表》六巻、註古文孝經》一巻、《易說》三巻、《註繫辭》二巻、《大學中庸議》一巻，其文如金玉、穀貝、藥石，必有適于用無益」之文，未嘗一語及之。咸淳三年従祀。
